Nepal’s foreign employment: Online demand attestation begins from today
Kathmandu- The government has marked the beginning of the attestation process of the demand paper relating to foreign employment through online from Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha marked the beginning of the verification process at a function organized today at the Department of Consular Services. In the first phase today, the service was commenced from the Embassy of Nepal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister said that online demand attestation service would gradually be started from other diplomatic missions too. The service was started in the Embassy of Nepal in Saudi Arabia in 2012 but was not linked to the Foreign Employment Information Management System (FEIMS) of the Department of Foreign Employment forcing the employers and recruiting agencies to visit the diplomatic missions for official verification.
With the new provision in place, employers and recruiting agencies would get their jobs done online. On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said that the employers from the receiving countries could lodge their applications online and the revenue amount would be paid only after their application was approved.
“After that, all the documents will arrive in (the system) of DoFE and the DoFE will provide labour approval after needed verification,” Shrestha added. The officials have expected the end of intermediaries in the demand attestation process of the migrant workers. Shrestha added that the documents could be viewed at any time and the level of risks for migrants on different issues would be lowered.
On the occasion, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal argued that the demand attestation through the online system would ensure workers’ welfare and the officials would have access to control and facilitation of the employers too. Likewise, the Director General of the Department of Consular Services, Prakash Mani Poudel, said the new intervention has ensured quality service with limited means and resources.
