A total of 24 new cases of COVID-19 infection with Omicron variant have been detected from 250 tests conducted so far. The Ministry of Health and Population shared that a total of 1,146 samples were tested from mid-December to date during which 250 were found with S-Gene negative. When a gene-screening test was conducted on those 250 samples, all 24 samples tested positive for COVID-19 with Omicron variant.
The Ministry, issuing a press statement here today, has instructed all the hospitals to be prepared for prevention, control, and cure of Omicron variant infection. “The Ministry has also asked the hospital and health workers to arrange adequate oxygen and other equipment needed for the treatment of the COVID-19 infected ones,” the statement read. In consideration of the growing numbers of patients due to Omicron, the Ministry has appealed to all the hospitals and health workers to remain ready for prevention, and control of the infection and for treatment of the infected ones,” said a spokesperson at the Ministry, Dr. Sangita Kaushal Mishra. According to Mishra, tests for COVID-19 would be stepped up in the bordering points and those testing positive for the infection would be treated in the isolation facility.
For S-Gene Screening, the Ministry has designated Bir Hospital, Civil Service Hospital, Birendra Military Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Province Public Health Laboratory in Province No 1, and Bheri Hospital, the statement said. The Ministry has urged one and all to comply with health safety protocols to remain safe from COVID-19 that, the Ministry cautioned, was at risk of rapid spread due to the Omicron variant.
