First Covid-19 death reported in Nepal

On Saturday, Nepal reported the first Covid-19 death, according to the Health Ministry.
Issuing a press note late Saturday evening, the ministry confirmed that a postpartum woman, who died on the way to Dhulikhel Hospital on Thursday, is the first Covid-19 fatality in the country.
“This is the first death due to Covid-19 in the country,” the press note, signed by deputy spokesperson for the Health Ministry Dr Sameer Kumar Adhikari, reads.
The 29-year-old woman from Barhabise in Sindhupalchok district had a normal delivery on May 6 at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). The woman returned to her village in Sindhupalchok, after the hospital discharged her on May 7 as the health of both baby and mother was normal.
However, the woman reported a fever and respiratory difficulties shortly after returning home, the press note reads, adding that she was also treated at the local health centre. “After her condition worsened, she was referred to the Dhulikhel Hospital on May 14, and she succumbed to death on the way to the hospital.
As she had complained of respiratory problem, the Health Ministry had later conducted the test at the National Public Health Laboratory and the result was positive. Her body has been brought to Pashupatinath Electric Crematorium late in the evening for the final rites.
