Banking services to expand to all local level

Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada said banking services would be extended to all local level across the country within the current fiscal year of 2018/19.
Not only to Singha Durbar, private and governmental banking service would be expanded to even remote areas around the country, he said responding to queries about banking service expansion raised by lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives.
“Permission has been granted to set up Rastriya Banijya Bank’s branch in Singha Durbar’s premises. Convenient locations are being searched for this purpose,” he said.
He also stressed the need for making the banking sector competitive in a bid to provide equal opportunities to all banks.
Assuring that personal details given in filling out forms to open bank accounts would be kept confidential, he said such personal details would not be revealed or exported outside of the country, they would be retrieved once court and Nepal Rastra Bank require them.
“The country has private and government banks. All of them are banks and the government will treat them all equally,” he said.
