100 suspension bridges to be completed this year

A total of 100 suspension bridges are being constructed by the end of this fiscal year, the Suspension Bridge Division of the Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR) said. Once completed, some of the suspension bridges shall replace the tuin.
Engineer Humakanta Mishra of the Division shared that there are 140 bridges under construction across the country at present. According to him, 90 percent of the bridges to be completed by this fiscal year are from the hilly region. He said that the DoLIDAR will meet its target for bridge construction except in the cases of land disputes adding that disputes could occur over the site where the bridges have to be built in private land.
Mishra added that the suspension bridges are being constructed in the locations where the road access is not likely in the immediate future. “The sites with no access to road link are selected for suspension bridge construction for some years,” he said.
The DoLIDAR constructs the suspension bridges on its own if they are more than 120 meters in length while the concerned local levels take this responsibility if such bridges are within the length of 120 meters.
