High-level taskforce formed

The government has formed a high-level taskforce to explore the prospects and resolve the problems seen in the tea industry.
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security on Tuesday announced the taskforce. Secretary at the Ministry Mahesh Prasad Dahal coordinates the taskforce.
The Ministry stated that the taskforce has been formed for the overall development of the tea industry and to address its existing broader problems and challenges.
The taskforce comprises representatives of the Federal Ministry related to the tea industry and the Social Development Ministry of Province-1 government, trade union, Federation of Nepalse Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Nepal Tea Manufacturers’ Association representatives, and experts.
The taskforce has been assigned the responsibility of presenting a report with recommendations to the government regarding what policy reforms were required in the coming days for the sustainable and long-term development of the tea sector so as to establish it as an important economic base, while taking into account the existing legal, institutional and practical problems of the sector as well as the concerns of tea entrepreneurs and labourers, the Ministry has stated.
The taskforce has been given two months to submit its report to the government.
