NEA to work jointly with Finance Ministry

KATHMANDU: A delegation of the Nepal Economic Association (NEA) led by its Officiating President Dr. Bhawani P. Dhungana met with Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada and apprised him of the pertinent economic issues and forthcoming plan of activities to be undertaken jointly by NEA and the ministry in a changed socio-economic-political context.
Congratulating the newly appointed minister NEA Officiating President Dr. Dhungana said that the NEA has been working for national economy jointly with the ministry and other stakeholders. As the government has been engaged in preparing white paper, NEA also can be an important contributor when it comes to refining economic policy-related issues and effective implementation of programmes to the benefits of people from central to local provinces.
Dr Dhungana, on the occasion, also said that NEA is working on preparing a paper on Fiscal Federalism and resource mobilization mechanisms in a changed federal context of Nepal which can turn out to be an effective input document to the current government.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada stressed on effective resource mobilization and making the economic sustainable with proper allocation of resources and revenue generation. These issues are very pertinent in today’s context for which NEA can be our critical partner. Finance Minister also said that states are now in a risky zone in terms of resources for which sustainability mechanism should be in place on time with proper homework. There is a huge requirement of infrastructure liability at the local level for which government and the relevant stakeholders need to think seriously to move ahead effectively that will ultimately benefit us.
Thanking NEA, the minister said that relations institutionalization, organizing effective events to discuss pertinent national economic issues and contribution of inputs from NEA are always welcome, he added. Finance Minister Khatiwada, on the occasion, disclosed that White Paper is almost ready and, will be released soon.
The NEA team was led by its Officiating President Dr. Bhawani Prasad Dhungana, Secretary General Gopal Prasad Tiwari, Treasurer Prof Dr. Shanta Singh, Secretary Dr. Khom Raj Kharel and executive members namely Prof Dr Govind Nepal, Prof Dr. Bijaya Shrestha, Dr Madhav Prasad Dahal, Dr. Shivraj Adhikari and Dr Yadav Ghimire.
