49 dead after US-Bangla plane crash landed in TIA

KATHMANDU: Authorities said that at least 49 people were killed, when an aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines crashed while landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Monday afternoon.
The aircraft flight BS 211 – a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 – carrying 71 passengers including the crew flying from Dhaka in Bangladesh burst into flames as it crash landed at 2:15 pm, police informed.
Some 22 survivors are receiving treatment in different hospital, whereas forty bodies were recovered from the scene, Police authorities informed, adding that nine died in hospital.
Nepali, Bangladeshi, one each from Chin and the Maldives were on board the ill-fated aircraft. “The plane crashed as it approached the runway from the wrong direction, according to the TIA authority. “The plane had permission to land from the southern side of the runway but it instead landed from the northern side.”
