Chameliya comes to operation after 11 years

DADHELDHURA: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday inaugurated Chameliya Hydropower project.
One of the national pride projects based at Balach, Shailya Shikhar Municipality-1 of Darchula district took almost 11 years to complete. The 30 MW hydro project is expected to transform the lives and livelihood of the far west region of the country, apart from boosting the economy.
The 30-Megawatt project cost Rs 16 billion due to time escalation and various technical problems. According to Project chief Ajaya Dahal, the hydel project will produce 184.2 million units of power annually from Saturday in a commercial manner. “It will earn Rs 1.10 billion annually, he said, adding that the project, constructed by China Gezhouba Company Ltd is now connected to the national grid.
