‘Govinda Biyogi Journalism Prize’ conferred on Krishna Jwala Devkota

This year’s ‘Govinda Biyogi Journalism Prize’ has been conferred on Editor of the Naya Patrika daily, Krishna Jwala Devkota. Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki conferred the prize on Devkota at a programme of Editor Society Nepal organized on 12th Memorial Day of Biyogi Thursday. The prize carries a purse of Rs 25,000. Likewise, news editor of Nepal Television Anita Bindu was prized for her special contribution to Nepal’s television journalism. Bindu was honored with a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Similarly, former Chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Dharmendra Jha, then English news editor of Radio Nepal Harish Chand and Editor-In-Chief of The Telegraph Narendra Prasad Upadhyay were felicitated with the Senior Journalist Honour. On the occasion, Finance Minister Karki said that the media persons have key roles to make the society more responsible. He also pledged his full support on behalf of the government to be set up a journalism study center. UML publicity department chief Yogesh Bhattarai also said that UML would assist the activities carried out by the institution established to enliven the name of journalist Biyogi. Also speaking at the programme, FNJ General Secretary Ramesh Bista said that the government should support the development of journalism, adding that Nepali journalism was gradually embracing modern tenets. On the occasion, Society Chairman Puru Rizal said Journalism Study Centre is being established in the name of Biyogi in Shivapuri Rural Municipality of Nuwakot.
