Chameliya Hydropower project adds 15 MW to national grid
Chameliya Hydropower Project has added 15 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid from Friday.
Funded by the government and Republic of Korea through Economic Development Corporation Fund (EDCF), the hydropower project has been delayed due to various reasons and took 10 years to complete.
According to Project Chief Ajay Kumar Dahal, the project has an installed capacity of 30 MW, out of which 15 MW has been synchronized to Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) national transmission line, on Friday afternoon.
The project, which started in January of 2007, was supposed to be completed in May 2011. However, it took seven more years to complete, which has caused a loss of around Rs 2 billion in revenue every year to the NEA.
Located in Darchula of the far-western region, the 30-MW Chameliya Hydropower Project has been constructed by China’s Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC).The project is now estimated to cost Rs 32 billion.
