Japan provides a mobile clinic car in Siraha
The Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Masashi Ogawa signed a grant contract for providing a mobile clinic car to the Phul Kumari Mahato Memorial Hospital, located in Siraha District on Wednesday. The grant contract was signed between the Embassy of Japan and the chairman of the hospital, Dr Upendra Mahato.
The grant assistance of $63,043 (Rs 6.5 million) is funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).The mobile clinic is a specialized car manufactured by Toy Factory, a Japanese company, and comes with basic medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment of patients. It can also be used to transport patients to the hospital if needed. The Phul Kumari Mahato Memorial Hospital is located in a small village called Karjanha and is the only medical facility in the area. It provides a wide range of medical services and focuses on treatment of local women and children. The mobile clinic will support the expansion of its services to cover four districts, Danusha, Siraha, Udayapur and Sindhuli.
The mobile clinic is a van-type vehicle and contains a variety of medical equipment for performing basic surgeries. The vehicle and parts are all Japan-made and the Japanese suppliers, Toy-Factory and Toy Factory International, will provide continuous technical assistance for the maintenance of the mobile clinic car.
Dr Mahato established the hospital to commemorate his mother, who could not be saved due to a lack of medical facilities in the area. He hopes that the hospital will support the development of a model village and bring quality and accessible health care to one of the least developed regions in Nepal.
The hospital provides different services free of cost or at a minimum cost to financially and socially disadvantaged people.
The Embassy of Japan believes this project will contribute towards improving medical services and will help save lives of people living in the southeastern plains of Nepal. The embassy also believes the project can further enhance the bilateral relationship between Japan and Nepal.
