In a bid to promote the use of naumati baja, traditional band of nine musical instruments, and to contribute to local tourism, construction of a park with these instruments has been planned here.
Naumati baja are played on the occasion of various celebrations, festivals and ceremonies in Nepal.
Huge replicas of these musical instruments will be placed in the park, said local tourism promotion committee Chairman, Sunil Dahal, adding that the park would be set up at Pokharidanda of Machhapuchhre rural municipality-6 in Kaski district.
He added that the use of panche baja and naumati baja has been declining in the recent time though these traditional musical instruments enliven Nepal's original culture. Damaha, sahani, narsingha, karnal, dholak, tyamko are important musical instruments among the naumati baja.
The committee has initiated the works in this regard, targeting the completion of park construction within this fiscal year. Leveling of surface and preparing copper replica of the instruments has already begun, Dahal added.
According to him, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has allocated Rs 1.5 million for the park construction. He believed that the naumati baja park would inspire the new generation to study, use and promote these original instruments of the country.
The park is being built in 20 ropanis of land.
