KATHMANDU: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) organized various events in Kathmandu on the eve of the formal inaugural session of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) International CFO Conference.
The ICAN hosted SAFA Quiz Contest and Elocution Contest amongst the CA final level students of SAFA member bodies on Tuesday, a day ahead of SAFA International CFO Conference, which is scheduled to be formally inaugurated by the Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun.
A team representing Nepal stood first with a score of 120 while Pakistan bagged the second position in the contest held among seven member countries of the SAFA.
Speaking at the event, the ICAN’s president, Prakash Jung Thapa, said that the conference is instrumental in producing skilled human resources for strengthening financial governance and transparency in South Asian countries.
SAFA’s chairperson, Dr Subodh Karna, said that the conference will help in making the accountancy more professional in South Asia apart from providing a platform to share skills and knowledge among South Asian members.
Meanwhile, seven various committees of SAFA also held their meeting on Tuesday. The decisions of the meeting of these committees are presented in the SAFA Board meeting that is held in every four month as reference materials, according to officials of SAFA.
Coinciding with the ICAN’s 21st anniversary, the autonomous regulatory body of the accountancy profession in Nepal is organizing various events for four days until Friday including the SAFA International Conference on Wednesday in Kathmandu.
The conference is being held with a theme of 'Evolving Economic Environment-Challenges and Way Forward', according to the organizer.
The conference is bringing together directors, CEOs, chief financial officers, managers, professionals, consultants, members and students from various South Asian countries where 15 renowned international professionals and leaders of accountancy sectors will be speaking on various thematic issues. Over100 participants from foreign countries and more than 300 from Nepal are going to participate in the conference, according to the ICAN.
Similarly, the ICAN has said that SAFA Best Presented Annual Report, 2016, and SAARC Anniversary for Corporate Governance Disclosures ceremonies will also be presented to enhance good governance, transparent reporting and adequate disclosures through application of financial reporting and auditing standards.
